COLOMBIA

Although about a dozen different Colombian telegraph seals appear on the market from time to time, usually mint but sometimes whole used, they are seldom found on telegrams or envelopes permitting reliable dating. A meticulous study of these has been made by Alan Anyon who has identified seven different designs most of which are found in different colours and different perforations. He has had rather more success than I at establishing precise dates of use and it is his dates which are given below. Those below are again in random order although stylistically #6 is probably the earliest and #7 the latest.

Updates. The above was written by Steve Hiscocks. I have added the colour images at 300dpi scale.
items are still not in chronological order. Partial tentative pricing added.

Hiscocks added the following note:

Note. All the above show distinct shades which Anyon lists.
The (a) varieties do not always show the same shades.

Type #2 1934 (24mm) Lithographed with imprint of 'LIT. NATIONAL' 6mm long in the centre.

Seal RH6a Seal RH6x ?
I have 8 examples of RH6a, Perf. 11½ as the seal on the left. I also have the one on the right
that seems to have lost most of the imprint let alone anything else.

Seal RH7 Seal RH7a
Type #2 (RH7), Perf. 11½
I have 4 of these.
Type #2 (RH7a), Perf. 11½  With 'AV-Gb.'
I have 10 of these.

Perf 10.8 Seal RH7c Perf 10 x 11.5
Type #2 (RH7b?), *Perf. 10.8
I have 3 with 'AV-Gb.' and 6 without.
Type #2 (RH7c), Perf. 12½
I have 5 of these, all without 'AV-Gb.'
Type #2 (RH7d?), Perf. 10x11½
I have only this 1 of these.

*Since I have 9 examples with Perf. 10.8 I have to assume that RH7b should be Perf. 10¾ rather than the Perf. 10½ that Steve Hiscocks quoted. I have therefore corrected it.

My single example with apparently Perf. 10x11½ is not so straightforward. Whilst the perforations on the right side are nicely regular, the top is very rough, and the bottom
has a lot of wide 'teeth' and perhaps one or two narrow ones. The left side is also fairly irregular. RH7d appears to be the most likely candidate.

I do not normally include advertising stickers, but since it bears the words 'TELEGRAFOS NACIONALES',
I presume it has official standing, though I could be wrong. Bucaramanga is a city in the North-East.
