Updates. The above was written by Steve Hiscocks. Below are my own acknowledgements for assistance. |
First I also acknowledge the above. If not for them I would have nothing to update and would be starting from scratch.
Some of the above I can, and will, contact to request continued support for these updates.
Some (most) of them I do not know how to contact. If by chance any of them should read this, I would welcome contact.
I will add below names of those kind enough to assist me in these updates to Steve Hiscocks' work:
I will also mention that Wikipedia has been very helpful for me in
helping me get to grips with the complicated historical changes
taking place during the 'telegraph era', including as it did the break-up of at least three empires, two World Wars and the rise of communism.
Not only did these events have an impact on the variety of seals used, but I'm sure telegraphy was important to the events.
It is sometimes hard to know if an item was generally used as a seal, or was entirely an 'etiquette'.
I think some items may have started as a seal but became used as an etiquette after seals were no longer required.
Veikkos.com is a good site to see a range of 'etiquettes'.
